About the MedAid project
MedAid means "Medical Aid" and the project was aimed at helping to provide it - either by purchasing the necessary medical supplies or equipment, or by assisting with the actual provision of such supplies.
This project was implemented by the network for the first time, and the reason for this was the fact that last year the need to increase the capacity of local hospitals increased, given the full-scale invasion, occupation of the regions and the increase in the number of people with the status of internally displaced persons.

About the impact
In total, the project issued 18 grants for the medical needs of the foundations and made 6 direct purchases, resulting in more than 1,200,000 people (including IDPs and youth) benefiting from the implementation of community and hospital projects. Of course, this figure is not final and will depend on the actual number of patients and workload.
We had the following stages of implementation:
Procurement stage by the National Network for the Development of Local Philanthropy, and
Grants for community foundations that are represented in such places or regions as Berezan, Kherson, Bar, Podilskyi district, Kharkiv, Voznesensk, Rivne, Boyarka, Zhytomyr, Kramatorsk.
As for the first stage, the National Network for the Development of Local Philanthropy made 24 direct purchases, and the following needs were "closed":
5 resuscitation beds;
a lamp for the Zhytomyr hospital;
a washing machine;
medicines for the de-occupied territories of Kharkiv region;
doors for an X-ray room in Sosnivka;
several batches of medicines for the residents of frontline Kramatorsk;
a batch of blood clamps, medical gowns, disinfectants and surgical curtains;
ValleyLab Force Fx high-frequency electrosurgical system;
a batch of anesthetic bandages and dressings for burns;
Wood's lamp, dermatoscope, couch, height meter, illuminator for vision checks at the Slavske hospital;
8 batches of medicines;
2 generators.
As for the implementation phase of the grants, a total of 18 grants were provided to 10 communities, and its implementation can be found below.
Kharkiv Community Charitable Foundation "Toloka"
The project concerned the transportation of beds from Hungary to Kharkiv with medical mattresses. The project was relevant because there was a lack of modern medical equipment in Kharkiv, as it is expensive and difficult to purchase and bring. This, in particular, applies to medical electric beds. The number of patients with injuries of varying severity who need such equipment during treatment in hospitals has increased many times in Kharkiv and the region.
The number of functional medical beds has increased due to the implementation of the project, which has greatly simplified the care process and accelerated the recovery of patients.
Kherson Community Foundation "Zakhyst"
This community foundation implemented a project called "Keeping Kherson residents healthy - saving Kherson region!", which aimed to support vulnerable groups of Kherson residents in need of priority provision of medicines and medicines, including Kherson residents who were under occupation, thus enabling them to procure medicines on their own.
Applications were collected from parents of children with disabilities, sick children and newborns in need of specific care, and direct financial assistance was provided to 45 families with children, including 13 children with disabilities, 5 infants, and 27 families with children who needed support with medicines and special nutrition.
The community foundations actively attracted local resources, such as donations from people, co-financing from the city authorities,and logistics.
Voznesensk Community Foundation
The project was motivated by the fact that due to the active hostilities in the south of Ukraine, Voznesensk is a frontline city and receives internally displaced persons (IDPs) every day. In this regard, there is a need to expand the capacity of Voznesensk's healthcare facilities, which could be achieved by improving the logistics of the facilities and purchasing appropriate medical equipment.
In other words, a list of necessary medical equipment was compiled to meet the needs of the institutions, mainly equipment for the initial examination of patients and diagnosis of diseases, and the project was implemented through its purchase.
As a result, a venous scanner, a digital dermatoscope, a stethoscope, and a digital video otoscope were purchased, and the following goals were achieved
1) increase of medical equipment in healthcare facilities of Voznesensk community by 10 units;
2) 35,800 community residents gained access to quality medical services;
3) access to quality medical services for IDPs - 3000+ people;
4) 1000 residents of the hospital district received access to quality medical services.
CO "Community Foundation of Barskyi district "Bari"
In this case, the need was to provide 60 thousand residents of the Bar community with the necessary equipment to provide quality healthcare services to the residents of the Bar community from the beginning of the launch, in the conditions of war.

The purchased equipment allowed primary and secondary healthcare workers to provide quality services both in the laboratory and on an outpatient basis.
Podilska Hromada Community Foundation
The Vinnytsia Rehabilitates project aimed to improve the quality and expand the range of rehabilitation services provided by the Vinnytsia Regional Specialized Clinical Dispensary for Radiation Protection of the Population to those wounded during the war by purchasing and using rehabilitation equipment.
The following medicines were purchased: canvas-Mosquito Clamp, Mikulich Perinatal Curved Clamp, TS Mayo-Hegar Needle Holder, pressotherapy apparatus, leg and arm trainer, massager for muscle relaxation and recovery, disposable set for pressotherapy.
Boyarka Community Foundation
The project "Medicine for People" was relevant due to outdated equipment and equipment that was out of order, so there was a need to purchase equipment such as a three-channel ECG machine 300G, an electric water distiller DE - 10M Biomed, two XS-5520 LED MICROmed biological microscopes, laboratory scales BTU210 (AXIS), a hematology analyzer.
In addition, medical supplies were purchased for the rehabilitation department of the Intensive Care Hospital of the Boyarka City Council, such as an anti-decubitus mattress (sectional, cellular), an anti-decubitus pillow for a total amount of UAH 110 thousand,
Thanks to this, 10 beds in the rehabilitation department were completed and their number increased.
Berezan Community Foundation
The Community Health project was aimed at equipping the trauma center, intensive care unit, and surgery department of the Berezan City Hospital with medical equipment and medical furniture to provide emergency medical care.
Medical manipulation tables, a dry heat cabinet, an air sterilizer, pillows and bed linen were purchased.
Also, 6 functional beds were purchased for the newly created intensive care unit, 3 motorized beds for recovery and rehabilitation
Zhytomyr Community Foundation
The project was aimed at equipping the ophthalmology room of the V.Y. Bashek Children's Hospital and included the purchase of such equipment as a set of test ophthalmic lenses, a bivision trainer, an accomodation trainer "stream", red and blue glasses, and universal test frames.
We purchased 10 units of medical equipment that the ophthalmology department needed to provide quality medical services to children, including children with visual impairments. The hospital did not have some equipment at all, and some was available, but no longer of adequate quality to provide quality services to children undergoing examination and periodic treatment. Subsequently, it was transferred, which will allow more than 800 children a year to receive high-quality vision treatment with modern equipment.
Princes-Benefactors of Ostroh Foundation
Project "PRO-BONO interns - free eye examinations for refugees and low-income citizens of Rivne. Rivne by interns of the displaced university". The aim of the project was to involve students, interns and teachers of the displaced Luhansk State Medical University in providing free ophthalmological examination of displaced persons (IDPs) and low-income citizens of Rivne. Rivne. The free space was allocated at the Polyclinic of the Rivne Regional Clinical Hospital named after Yuriy Semenyuk, where the director of the polyclinic agreed to allocate more than 500 square meters for free for the classrooms of the displaced Luhansk State Medical University, including a separate room for free eye examinations, which was renovated. The 2 most successful students of the relocated university were selected and relocated to Rivne.
We also purchased 75 frames, and 30 frames were donated by the World of Optics company, as well as a light for vision testing tables, sciascope rulers, a slit lamp, sets of ophthalmic test eye lenses, and a mirror ophthalmoscope. A press conference and a press tour were held, which resulted in at least 150,000 views.
NGO "Community Development Fund"
The project "Laboratory equipment for the laboratory of the Bar City Hospital", where a portable batch laboratory medical centrifuge and a digital photoelectrocolorimeter were purchased.
Overall, the project achieved the following results:
The needs of more than 10 medical institutions were met;
Improved the quality of medical care for more than 1,200,000 people;
Opportunity to influence frontline regions such as Kharkiv, Kherson and Donetsk oblasts;
Opportunity to influence and improve the state of healthcare in Ukraine.
The following items were purchased: a halogen operating lamp for the Bar City Hospital, a hematology analyzer, a three-channel device, an electric water distiller, a biological microscope, and laboratory scales.
