Our fundraiser Victoria Zablotska faced a problem. To have an X-ray of her injured leg, she went several times to the room with an old X-ray machine in Sosnivska hospital in Lviv region. At the same time, there was a new machine on the ground floor, but it was not working.
60 thousand hryvnias is the price of a special door that does not transmit radiation. The hospital did not have that kind of money. And Victoria had no other options but to jump up and down the stairs on one leg.
The X-ray would be out of use for another six months. Victoria started working as a fundraiser at the National Network for the Development of Local Philanthropy. When the organization joined the MedAid project with the support of the Foundation de France, she remembered the broken X-ray. Viktoriia contacted Sosnivska Hospital and told them about the possibilities of a medical grant. The doors for the X-ray room were installed and it started working.
Sosnivska Hospital was one of those that received assistance in the MedAid project with the support of the Foundation de France. In total, 18 medical institutions received assistance.
The Foundation issued 18 grants for the medical needs of the institutions and made 24 direct purchases.
Functional intensive care beds for the Bereznovska hospital;
Shadowless surgical lamp for Zhytomyr hospital;
Washing machine for Glevakha hospital;
Arrangement of an X-ray room, procurement and installation of protective doors and panels for Sosnivska hospital;
Purchase of diagnostic medical equipment and furniture for Slavske Hospital;
Procurement of bandages, gowns, table covers, disinfectant, consumables and surgical instruments for Kramatorsk hospital;
Procurement of diagnostic kits (otoscopes and ophthalmoscopes) for Novoyavorivsk hospital;
Procurement of containers, lamps, recirculators for disinfection of instruments and premises, suture surgical material for the Odesa hospital.
Grants were also provided to community foundations in Berezan, Kherson, Bar, Vinnytsia, Kharkiv, Voznesensk, Rivne, Boyarka, Zhytomyr, and Kramatorsk.
Globally, these grants were not very large for the Ukrainian healthcare industry. However, due to the war and the displacement of the population from the temporarily occupied territories, the burden on hospitals has increased significantly. The team of the National Network for the Development of Local Philanthropy believes that it is important for Ukrainian society to have charitable foundations to which hospitals could address their requests directly. Taking small steps together, Ukrainian society can improve life in the country.
